Looking for a cute way to incorporate your party's theme into your tablescape? These one in a melon drink stirrers and coasters will not only spice up your table and put a smile on your guests' faces, but they're FUNctional too! Follow the steps below to create your own!
Start by creating your watermelon coasters. Since the DIY Unfinished Wood Circles are natural wood, they all vary slightly in color, so I gave them two coats of solid white paint so they would all be more cohesive.
Once the white paint is dry, paint a band of green around the edges of each. I came in about a ½" on each with the paint, and just eyeballed it as I went around.
Next, paint a pink circle in the center of each coaster. I punched a 2" circle and placed it in the center of the coaster to use as my guideline, then filled it in with color.
Now it's time to add the watermelon "seeds" to the pink portion. Using a fine tip brush, paint small black shapes that resemble seeds. Just like the real things, no two were exactly alike!
Next, create the drink stirrers. Start by cutting 2" circles from a green craft foam sheet. You will need to cut one circle per drink stirrer you plan to make. Once they're all cut, fold them in half and cut each one down the middle so you have two equal half circles.
Using a circle punch, cut 1.5" circles from a white craft foam sheet, and repeat the process to cut each circle in half.
Paint each of the white circles pink, leaving a rim of white around the outer edge of each piece and set aside to dry.
Once the pink paint has dried, use a fine tip paintbrush to add tiny seeds with black paint.
Now comes the fun part – assembling your watermelon slices! Using hot glue, adhere the pink and white watermelon centers to the green rind pieces, lining up the flat edges at the top.
Next, cut off 4" from each of the bamboo skewers and hot glue them to the newly formed watermelon slices. Sandwich the sticks between a second watermelon slice, making sure the flat edges line up at the top of each.
