For our recent Mary Poppins baby shower, we wanted to create a unique and beautiful centerpiece that truly captures the essence of Mary Poppins herself. We were inspired by her iconic daisy-topped hat and the magic that Mary Poppins brings to the Banks children. In particular, we truly fell in love with the concept of creating alphabet blocks reading "Mary Poppins" just as she dreamed up in the original film. With a few simple supplies and our easy-to-follow tutorial, you can re-create this adorable look at home with ease!
To create Mary's iconic hat, start by wrapping red satin ribbon around the base of the black hat to create a decorative brim. Adhere the ribbon with a bit of hot glue to hold it in place.
Next, separate the stems of the faux daisies using a sharp pair of scissors. Insert two taller daisies inside the red satin ribbon and secure with hot glue.
Now, gather up a few wood beads. Using red paint, paint the beads so they resemble berries. Adhere the "berries" to the brim of the hat with hot glue.
Place a white candle stick holder in the center of your table then drape a blue tape measure over it. Place the decorated hat on the white candle stick holder.
To create the alphabet block style centerpiece, spray paint the Wood Block Bank in a light blue color and allow them to dry completely.
Add black alphabet stickers (or simply cut out your own by hand or using a vinyl cutting machine) to the front of the wood blocks using hot glue. Make sure your blocks are turned upside down so that the coin slot isn't showing. Spell out the name "Mary Poppins".
Download the free kite shape printable then trace one kite onto black cardstock paper. Hot glue the kite shape onto a wood block that will be used as a spacer between Mary and Poppins.
Set up your centerpiece in the center of your Mary Poppins's Baby Shower table and enjoy! Make sure to see how you can make your own Mary Poppins Backdrop as well as adorable Spoonful of Sugar Cupcakes!
