I love the look of sophistication that place cards bring to a table and these mini heart piñatas take place cards from formal to fun! The best part is, you can tuck a little something sweet inside so they double as favors for your guests to take home after your Galentine's Day Crafting Party. These cuties add a little sparkle to the table, are so easy peasy to make and can be customized to suit any color scheme. Follow the steps below to create your own.
Begin by removing the string from the papier mache heart ornaments and using a sharp tool, such as an exacto knife, cut a small flap on one side of each ornament.
Fill each heart with light pink Sixlets chocolate candy, then fold the flap closed. You can place a dot of hot glue if needed to keep the flap from opening.
Cut long lengths of light pink metallic wrapping paper in strips roughly 1" wide. Fold each strip in half and carefully snip the edges to fringe the paper. Don't worry if the pieces aren't perfectly cut since they will be fringed.
Next, turn the papier mache heart on its side and begin adding short pieces of fringed wrapping paper using small dabs of hot glue. Overlap each new row slightly to hide the top of the previous row. Be sure to leave a little excess paper hanging over each side of the heart.
Once you have covered all the outside edges of the heart, wrap each bit of the extra ends towards the center and secure with hot glue. This will create a more seamless look when you start applying the fringe on the front and back sides.
Now it's time to add fringe pieces to the front and back of each papier mache heart. Be sure to leave a bit of excess fringe hanging over each side. Once you've covered the whole front, trim the fringe on each side, as close to the edge as possible. Repeat on the back side.
To personalize each piñata, use rainbow self-adhesive letters. First paint them with gold paint and then add a layer of glittered gold acrylic paint over the top for a bit of texture and shine. Once dry, simply peel the backs off the stickers and adhere them onto your piñatas.
